Each day is a little different around here. We have a mix of family and daycare watching Vera while we’re at work. I try to incorporate at least one non-workout day during the week. I often have a Board meeting one morning or evening a week. And so on.
But yesterday (Tuesday) was a fairly typical Tuesday, plus I managed to taken a decent amount of pictures, so I thought it would be a good day for a recap, “A Day in the Life” style. Here goes nothing!
5 am: My alarm goes off. I turn it off and climb back in bed – unusual for me, but it was kind of a rough night. I had trouble falling asleep (unusual) and then Vera woke up screaming at 10:30 (unusual, I think it’s teething), and once I finally got her back down, I was super hungry (#nursingmomprobs). I had a smallish bowl of cereal and then had a hard time falling asleep AGAIN.
5:10 am: Mike’s alarm goes off, so I give up and get out of bed.
5:15 am: Prepare and devour cashew butter toast as my morning snack/first breakfast.
5:35 am: Get dinner into the crockpot. I mostly followed this recipe for Sante Fe black beans, but added carrots and celery to up the healthy factor. It needs a few more tweaks and another test run before being blog worthy.
6 am: Vera wakes up. I am running around the house doing various miscellaneous tasks, like packing up the car, so Mike goes in to get her. I follow in a few minutes later to help with the diaper change (she really fights it lately, so sometimes it’s better to have both of us there).
6:15 am: We say goodbye to Mike. I nurse Vera and then pump on the other side while we play. One of her new favorite things to do is cuddle her stuffed animals. It’s super cute! After I’m finished pumping, we get dressed for the day and then play some more – including chasing each other around.
7 am: My dad arrives to watch Vera. We chat and I give him an overview of Vera’s menu for the day, before handing her over and heading out to the gym.
7:25 am: I hop on the treadmill for a super quick and sweaty workout. The below routine took me just 25 minutes but it was a good one.
8:20 am: Arrive at the office still sweaty and with a spotty face, but ready for the day.
8:30 am: Eat breakfast (overnight oats!) and have coffee at my desk while getting into the groove of the day.
10 am: Pump! I take my laptop into the pumping room and work during the session.
Noon: Lunch at my desk while I work – leftover lentil and pepper bake, even though it didn’t turn out great.
2 pm: Pump again! Work during this session, too.
2:30 pm: Head out to Strongsville for a meeting…with some fuel for the road. I’m really digging these Pressed Bars from KIND, particularly this mango flavor and the Cherry Apple version. Love that the ingredients are fruit and chia seeds…and that’s it!
4:15: Meeting ends so I head home.
5 pm: After Vera greets me with big smiles and hugs, I get to work doing some dishes and getting dinner finalized. While I’m doing that, I set her up with a quick snack – Baby Mum-Mum’s Vegetable Rice Rusks teething wafers. She LOVES these and I love the ingredients – no added sugar (sweetened with fruit juice instead). I’m all about convenience but I want to feel good about what I’m feeding the baby, too.
5:30 pm: We all sit down for dinner.
6 pm: Evening play time!
6:50 pm: Vera is rubbing her eyes hard core, so it’s bedtime. We get her in her pajamas, then I nurse her and put her down to sleep. She goes into her crib seemingly wide awake but passes out immediately.
7: 15 pm: Time to pack up her bottles, breakfast and lunch for Wednesday since it’s a daycare day. I also boil up some carrots to add to the black bean dish (her lunch) to up the veggie factor. And yes, she has a HUGE lunchbox, but that’s because I have a lot of things to cram in it. 🙂
8 pm: I plop down on the couch to work on this blog post!
9:30 pm: Lights out.
So there it is…a day in the life of this working mom with a 10.5-month-old.
