Weekend Highlights: Family wedding + Vera’s first sleepover + quick salmon topper

Good morning! Some weekends leave you refreshed even though you didn’t exactly get in a lot of R&R time. This was one of those, although it started out a little rough.

Mike and Vera got home at 2ish (love those summer hours!) and it was immediately clear something was up with the kiddo. She left milk in her bottle for the second time that day and was really having a hard time going down for a nap.

I got home around 3:15 and started snuggling with her on the couch right away. She ended up napping on me for a total of an hour and half. After dinner, she was a little interested in playing – but that only lasted 15 or so minutes. It was right to bed for her.

What’s the highlight here? Well, I have to take snuggles with the baby when I can get them…so even though they were a result of her not feeling well (or something!), they are kind of a highlight 🙂

Also after she went to bed, I discovered that Season 3 of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt was on Netflix, so I watched some of that until Mike returned home from the rehearsal dinner.

Our Saturday was all about a wedding! Mike’s sister got married. It was a gorgeous, sunny, cheery day, and the wedding was lovely.

Dress + necklace from Rent the Runaway –> the best!

Thankfully, Vera woke up much better on Saturday and was in a great mood. She attended the ceremony and was such a good baby in church – thank goodness. She did yell out in glee when she saw Mike up in front of everyone giving his reading – so sweet.

After the ceremony, we went to Mike’s parents’ house for some time with out-of-town family, and then to my parents’ house for some quiet time so Vera could theoretically nap. She slept a little but mostly wanted to play. After a couple hours or so, we left her there for her first sleepover while we went to the reception.

I didn’t take many photos, but here’s the bride with her dad 🙂

Leaving Vera was….hard. But it was time, she was ready and we all did well. Mike and I had a great time at the reception, and I got to dance the night away, including with this one, my niece 🙂

With the baby at my parents’ house, I got to do the following:

  1. Sleep without worrying about getting up before the baby or without getting woken up by the baby
  2. Go for a run without having to coordinate with Mike
  3. Eat a leisurely breakfast and sip my coffee at a snail’s pace…all while sitting down

So, yeah. It was nice. Buuuuut we were more than ready to get our girl, so we left to go get her around 10…ha!. We went to church with my mom then headed to the grocery store for a few items. Some meal prep, water playtime outside and this delicious dinner rounded out the weekend:

Salmon topped with tomato-lemon-mustard salsa, baked fries and a side salad.

Let me tell you about this topper really quick….combine one package of grape or cherry tomatoes that have been quartered with a tablespoon each of lemon juice and dijon mustard. Season with salt, pepper and about 1/2 teaspoon of italian seasoning….done! It added a ton of yummy flavor and paired well with the sides we had. And as a bonus…we’re each using the leftovers on our salads for lunch tomorrow!

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend.

Do you dance at weddings?
