Taking full advantage of an extended workout break

Hey hey. Hope your week is going well. I’m finally back into my workout groove after being sick and my mini-mamacation.  Honestly, I usually don’t appreciate extended workout breaks, particularly when they are forced on me due to a health issue or injury, and I’ll always make time to workout on vacation.

Not this time though. I really listened to my body for signs it still needed to rest last week, and I listened to my heart when it said sleeping in and wandering around would be better than a workout.

For the first one, I’m sure this has something to do with my bout of pneumonia earlier this year. I had a lingering cough, and I kept pushing and pushing and pushing…until “just a cough” turned into “pneumonia.” Lesson. learned.

For the second one, I just knew what I truly needed this weekend – and it wasn’t yet another workout. It was relief from my usual routine and structure – which, as much as I love it, can sometimes start to feel like a grind.

And wouldn’t you know it….I’m back and feeling great. I was giddy stepping into the pool yesterday morning (even though I stepped slowly because it was c-c-c-c-cold) and smiled for probably my entire run on Monday morning. Today and Tuesday, I selected two of my very favorite interval workouts.

So, try to embrace the breaks (forced on you or not) but then come back ready to work your butt off 🙂
